Wild Walks

Public Wild Walks:

These one-hour walks on the wild side are fantastic for audiences of all ages. Choose from a variety of themed tours every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm or 2:00 pm to enhance your Zoo visit. Your knowledgeable guide will entertain you with fun facts, animal stories, and an education program animal encounter that will make you feel like a Zoo insider.

Register online or in person 10 minutes prior to tour start times in Entry Village.

Private Wild Walks:

Planning a special event? An engagement? Birthday? Family reunion? These 75 minute tours highlight 3-4 exhibit areas of your choosing with your own personal tour guide. Each Private Wild Walk ends with an animal encounter, where you get a chance to meet an education program animal up-close, in an area not usually open to the public. 

Private Wild Walks require advance payment and a minimum of two week’s notice prior to booking. Tours can be reserved 7 days a week within the Zoo’s normal operating hours, pending staff availability. Email to register.

VIP Wild Walks:

These tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 3:30pm. This 90-minute tour begins with an animal encounter and ends at our Bernard Osher Giraffe Lodge, where you get the opportunity to feed our giraffes some treats. The highlights of the Zoo tour are completely up to you; we customize our route as we go so you can see all of the exhibits and animals you would like (time permitting). Saturdays and Sundays with no listed tour have already been booked and are not available. Pre-registration required.

Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a new way to explore the Zoo? Solve fun puzzles as you visit the Elinor Friend Playground, Exploration Zone, and Fisher Family Farm on your smart phone with a ClueKeeper scavenger hunt! Best for families with children ages 4-12, this 1.5 hour long hunt will help you discover the Zoo together.

Bring your bicycle to the Zoo for this 1-1/2 hour riding tour. Our informative docents will guide you as you see the animals start their day. You may find a tiger yawning and stretching, a bear bathing or monkeys bounding through the branches for their morning exercise. It’s great to be in the Zoo ahead of the crowds.

We have BikeAbouts scheduled on a monthly basis March through October and on special occasions like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, where we finish our bike ride with a continental breakfast. You can also schedule your own private BikeAbout for groups of 10 or more.

The San Francisco Zoo provides an exciting opportunity to camp in the heart of the city. From dusk until dawn, groups will enjoy the sights and sounds of the Zoo. A special keeper talk will illustrate the great care the Zoo provides to its residents and the role zoos play in the conservation of wildlife. You will also learn some and simple ways that you can help conserve at home. Evening snacks, activities, and a continental breakfast are included. Our professional staff offers a fun adventure while leaving our guests with a memorable experience of a special night at the San Francisco Zoo.

Group Overnights
Our group overnight programs are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis throughout the year. Overnights are a fun, unique, and educational experience for all groups; bring your class, group or troop to the Zoo. Family Overnights
Several times a year, the San Francisco Zoo hosts parents and children for a night of family fun. Family Wild Nights Gift Certificates are also a great gift idea. Minimum age for children is 6 years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Twilight Tours

Experience the Zoo in a whole new light – twilight. Twilight Tours are a fun-filled and educational tour experience. Groups go on a nocturnal safari and meet a Zookeeper for an up-close animal encounter. Games, evening snack, and activities are all part of the wild adventure. Twilight Tours are from 6:30pm-9:00pm, for children ages 4 and up. Themed tours are scheduled throughout the year, but if you have a group of 15 or more you may schedule your own tour.

Wild Places, Wild Things! Conservation Speaker Series

Local and international conservationists provide inspirational talks about world-wide conservation efforts. Don't miss the opportunity to connect with scientists and learn about how they are saving wildlife.

Senior Stroll

Enjoy a guided walking tour with almost the whole Zoo to yourself. Watch the animals that are active early in the day, with a docent guide to answer your questions and offer fascinating insights into animal behavior.

Senior Stroll is held quarterly every 2nd Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 am. For guests ages 65 years and older.
