Red pandas are native to the eastern Himalayas and China, but did you know the North American raccoon is its distant cousin?
Red pandas are found in montane forests in parts of China, Nepal, Myanmar and India. They feed mainly on young leaves and shoots of bamboo, but will also eat roots, fruits, eggs or small reptiles when available. They are currently listed as "vulnerable" due to habitat loss. Come and visit our red panda, Tenzing, in his Treehouse Masters-built home in the Fisher Family Children’s Zoo.
Your Adopt-an-Animal donation will be used to support these cute fury friends and further the San Francisco Zoological Society’s mission to connect people to wildlife, inspire caring for nature and advance conservation action.
